I've always loved this scene. The night before the battle of Gozer. Egon was checking out Louis Tully, who had been possessed by Vinz Clortho. Janine tells Egon that she's afraid he might die and Egon tries to comfort her. It's just so sweet in this scene. Janine's worried about her crush and Egon kinda telling her "I'll be alright". Shows Egon has a heart of gold. He's such a sweetheart. I love this man. This is also kinda romantic.

From what we see in 'Afterlife', we find that Egon had a previous relationship that just didn't work out causing him to lose custody of his daughter.

Once you look this one scene over you notice that Egon is a little hesitant about holding Janine. The second he does, the phone rings and he hurries over to answer it to avoid the subject.

This shows that Egon does have feelings for Janine, but he's just too afraid to express it and afraid to go through the same thing as his last relationship. It makes sense to me.
